Travel on the Moscow High-Speed Diameter (MSD) will remain free for residents of the capital and the region, and for transit cars from January 2 it will cost 950 rubles, informed Moscow deptrans in his Telegram channel.

“Paid for: transit cars with numbers from other regions that will use any entrance to and exit from the MSD within two hours and cross the borders of the Central Ring Road within 24 hours … the tariff is 950 rubles,” the message says.

It will be possible to pay for the fare through the website or the Parking of Russia application, the department added.

Free travel will remain for all passenger cars and land transport with numbers in Moscow and the region, taxis licensed to operate in Moscow and the region, as well as intercity buses.

Now, 250,000 cars a day pass through the main section of the MSD, their number may subsequently reach 400,000, said Maxim Liksutov, head of the transport department.

“Therefore, based on the proposals of experts and Muscovites, we have formed the mechanics of toll travel on MSD in such a way that transit traffic does not interfere with residents of the capital and the region,” he said.

Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that the introduction of paid travel for transit cars would reduce the number of transit cars and reduce travel time for residents of the region. The authorities expect that the transit flow will continue to go along the Central Ring Road.

The construction of the main section of the MSD (North-Eastern Expressway) began in April 2019. The six-lane route, about 7.5 km long, starts in a straight line at the Yaroslavskoye Highway, runs along the MCC and connects to the MSD section, which leads to the M11 Moscow-St. Petersburg highway.
