At least six people were detained by the Castro dictatorship during a protest recorded on March 8 in San Andrés, 19 kilometers from the provincial capital in Holguín, of which two are women, who have already been identified.

These are Elsa Elisa Solís Barrera and Lea Velázquez Ochoa, who have already been transferred to the provincial prison, according to a report. Martí News.

Likewise, it was learned that four of the six detainees were held incommunicado at the State Security headquarters in Pedernales, but were later transferred to prison.

These people who went out to demonstrate peacefully in Holguín are being accused by the dictatorship of the alleged crimes of contempt and public disorder.

Hours later, the identity of others detained by the regime was known. These are Yunior Barrera Gutiérrez and Yulier Ramírez San Juan, who are currently imprisoned in the CubaSí prison, and Reinier Reimón Peña and Warnel Ricardo, who still remain at the political police headquarters. It turned out that Barrera Gutiérrez, 48 years old, is the father of two minor children with intellectual disabilities.

For her part, Blanca María Barrera Gutiérrez, mother of Elsa Elisa, one of the detainees, considered that her arrest was arbitrary and that the Castro authorities have not explained to her the reasons for the detention.

“Elsa Elisa is my 20-year-old daughter and Yunior Barrera Gutiérrez is my brother. “I am sick, I suffer from pressure and they (the authorities) have not explained anything to me,” the woman told Martí Noticias.

These actions, in the context of the recent protests in Cuba, show how repression continues to increase while Antilleans continue to take to the streets to demand their rights.
