US and Philippine militaries begin annual joint exercise
Officials have said that 17,000 soldiers from both countries will take part in training on improving sea security in this exercise called Balikathan.
While its opening ceremony was held at the Philippine military headquarters, some protested against the joint exercise between the two countries.
They protested that it was being conducted as a display of US power and not to protect the Philippines.
