France Télévisions hears about teenagers. For five minutes a day from Monday to Friday from September 18, at 6 p.m. on YouTube and at a time yet to be defined on TNT channel 27, the group will offer its new news: “What’s the news? “. An information program presented by Nacer Boubekeur and Camille Dahan, designed for 12-18 year olds, “which will address all subjects, at the level of adolescents”, explains Célia Mériguet, director of digital publishing at France info, during a press conference given this Wednesday, September 13.

A target to which “ the supply of information is meager, apart from the paper press, believes Célia Mériguet. What we want to do by investing in this niche, and which meets our public service mission, is above all to interest them in public affairs. » To attract 12-18 year olds and achieve this, France Télévisions is banking on “a filming studio designed in the codes of the Twitch streamers they watch, more direct writing and dynamic editing designed for social networks”adds the digital director of France info.

Reach out to teenagers on social networks

Because the ambition of the channel with this news is to meet teenagers where they are: on YouTube – on the channel “C quoi l’info?” » –, Tik Tok and Snapchat, in more or less short formats, in horizontal or vertical version, depending on the platforms and their uses. The full version of the video will also be available on the website francetvinfo.frwhere Célia Mériguet intends rather to seek out the parents, in their role of “content prescribers for their children”.

Already, several test newspapers have been presented to samples of the target audience, notably this summer among young people at a Parisian leisure center. “This allowed us to adapt our vocabulary, to ban or further explain certain terms, to adopt a more relaxed tone than in a program intended for adults”, underlines Camille Dahan. The team – made up of a total of seven people – also works with middle school classes, including a fourth grade and another third grade in Drancy. “We are also looking for a class in a rural setting, to ensure we reach everyone”adds Célia Mériguet.

In the future, Alexandre Kara, information director of the public group, aims to further expand France Info’s young audience. “We have the feeling of not speaking to people under thirty, he notes. Ultimately, we would like to create, in addition to “What is the information?” », info sections especially for 8-12 year olds and 18-25 year olds. »
