New year, new features. WhatsApp plans a consistent expansion of what the Germans’ most popular messenger can do for 2022 as well. The app should be more convenient, easier, faster and safer. BILD gives an overview of the most important innovations.
Profile photos in the notifications
Meta is already testing a function on the iPhone that will make Messenger clearer. In the beta version of WhatsApp, the profile photos of the sender of the respective message are already displayed in the notifications. So you can see more quickly who’s messages are in the inbox.

Easier eavesdropping function
Up until now, voice messages were interrupted by Messenger when you left the chat in which they were sent. That should change soon. Then you can listen to a message, but at the same time read other chats and even compose some messages while listening to audio recordings. The only hurdle that still remains: The playback of the message ends when you leave WhatsApp.
Communities
This extra should also make WhatsApp easier. The WABetaInfo service reports on traces of a community function in the current beta of the messenger. Several group chats can be combined in these communities. Administrators can then manage these groups together – the messenger becomes clearer for the user if, for example, several subgroups communicate with one another in chats within a club.

Better pictures
Anyone who sends photos via WhatsApp knows the problem: The images always look much worse on the recipient than on the sender. That’s because WhatsApp is still shrinking files when sending them, even after the most recent updates. That should change in 2022. For example, the messenger is working on the option of choosing whether the image should be reduced in size (and thus with less data required) or sent in optimal quality when sending it.
Emoji reactions
As has long been common with other messengers, WhatsApp will soon be able to respond to messages with just an emoji. So far you have to send a new message for this.
More overview in the chat
WhatsApp is working on a function that shows in groups who has deleted a message. This shows whether an administrator has deleted an amount or whether the sender himself has removed it from the group.
All of the functions mentioned here have already appeared in pre-release versions of WhatsApp. So they are already being specifically developed and tested by WhatsApp operator Meta. However, it is still unclear when they will be integrated into the finished version of WhatsApp and when they will be available to all users worldwide.
