To prevent accidents due to electrocution when a power line falls, the Electricity Board is planning to install ‘tripping devices’ with meters in transformers at a cost of Rs 5,800 crore.

Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Chennai under ground cable; In other places, electricity is distributed with the help of devices such as transformers, power distribution boxes, etc. through the wire going over the electric pole. During the rainy season, the pole tilts and the electric wire falls. If someone unexpectedly steps on that wire, there is a risk of electrocution and death. To prevent this, the Electricity Board has decided to install modern meters and ‘tripping devices’ in 3.76 lakh power distribution transformers of various capacities across the state.

The project cost is 5,800 crore rupees. The meter installed on the transformer will accurately record the heat level of the transformer, ‘voltage’ and oil level inside the transformer, ‘power factor’. When the power line is cut, the tripping device will automatically operate and cut off the power supply from the transformer immediately. . Due to this, electricity does not flow in the wire that falls.

As the location of the damage will also be reported, the staff will come quickly and repair the damaged power line. This will prevent the occurrence of electrical accidents. Apart from this, revenue will be collected according to the amount of power distributed in each transformer and power loss will also be prevented. The Electricity Board has sought approval from the Tamil Nadu government to implement this scheme. After getting the approval from the government, installation of tripping device with meter in the transformer will start.
