Civil society health actors met on December 29, 2023 in Ouagadougou to ask the Burkinabe authorities to revise Law 030 on the fight against HIV/AIDS and the protection of people living with HIV-AIDS. A law dating from 2008, which according to the declaration read by these Civil Society Health actors, no longer fits with the evolution of the fight against HIV/AIDS currently.

It is a monitoring action which led civil society organizations to make a relative declaration to request the revision of law 030 relating to the fight against HIV-AIDS and the protection of the rights of people living with HIV-AIDS. This declaration carried by the Faso-COCOFA Community Convergence aims to accelerate the process of revising this law for better protection of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Otherwise, the President of the Board of Directors of COCOFA, Édouard Diapa, recognized that consultation with government actors bodes better for the future with regard to the revision of Law 030.

However, he said, it is their duty to maintain vigil until the law is actually revised. Why do you want to revise this law? “Because the context has evolved. From 2008 to now, there have been many developments in relation to the undetectable viral load which allows the person living with HIV to live with their partner without transmitting HIV to them. Something which was not obvious in 2008, hence the revision of this law is necessary,” explained Souleymane Bansé of the Association la vie continues.
These actors therefore invited the government to look into their advocacy so that together they achieve the objective of three times 95, namely, 95% of people put on treatment, 95% of people who know their serological status and 95% of people screened.
