The Defense and Security Council reviewed the military situation in the western region and the steps taken to extend the state’s influence there.

This came during a meeting of the Defense Council, chaired by the representatives of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni and Abdullah Al-Lafi, to discuss the steps that must be taken into account after the Chief of Staff formed a force from some military units and assigned it to support the security services in carrying out the tasks assigned to them.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister of the National Unity Government, Abdul Hamid Al-Dabaiba, in his capacity as Minister of Defence, the Chief of General Staff, Muhammad Al-Haddad, the Assistant Chief of Staff, Salah al-Din al-Namroush, in addition to the head of the General Intelligence Service, the head of the Internal Security Service, and the designated Minister of Interior.

This meeting comes hours after Al-Namroush announced the formation of a force of seven brigades (555th Infantry Brigade, 444th Fighting Brigade, 103rd Infantry Battalion, 111th Majhfal Brigade, 51st Infantry Brigade, 52nd Infantry Brigade, and 62nd Infantry Brigade), after the tension that witnessed it. Ras Jedir border crossing between Libya and Tunisia.

A few days ago, the Interior Minister-designate, Imad Trabelsi, pledged to stop smuggling from the Ras Jedir crossing, announcing its closure indefinitely.

The Zuwara Municipal Council earlier called on the Government of National Unity, the Presidential Council, and the Supreme Council of State to put an end to what it described as “abuses and provocations” at the Ras Jdir port after Trabelsi’s statements, and to prevent the region from being dragged into war, threatening escalation and civil disobedience if their demands are not met.
