Art stops: the other Florence seen from the tram

by time news

Stop at the Strozzi-Fallaci station of T1 the app recommends: walk 238 meters in that direction and you can visit the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity. But if you wait a couple of stops towards Careggi, here is piazzale Leopoldo: go and visit the Stibbert Museum at 636 meters, all here full of charm: the history, the collection, the place. Or, in the opposite direction: at 113 meters there is the mural dedicated to Nelson Mandela made by Jorit Agoch. If, on the other hand, you got off at Leopolda, the advice becomes: the Teatro del Maggio is only 316 meters away.

We will find about 200 examples of this. At least for now. Because the Tram-and-Art project is expanding. The idea is to take advantage of the tram lines to recommend corners, views, experiences of art, greenery, entertainment and culture, out of common places and attractions. mainstream. With particular attention to the Florence of the twentieth century but not only. A project conceived by Olivia Turchi and Caterina Paolucci of the Via Maggio association five years ago and which has now been started together with Gest, the French company in which Ratp manages the tramway and which has won the contract to manage the transport by road from Florence and Tuscany. There is the support of the CR Firenze Foundation. Gest’s experience has already seen a similar project work in Paris and other European cities. That of Caterina Paolucci and Olivia Turchi of Via Maggio contributed in terms of cultural content.

The site www.tramedartefirenze.it is already active in both Italian and English. But the best part will come in the next two weeks when the tram stops will be equipped with special QR codes to be framed with the smartphone and which will make the experience more direct and effective. In the coming months, the contents will be strengthened: recommending specific shows when you arrive near a theater or an auditorium, exhibitions in the case of museums and galleries, sports activities and more. From September it will be possible to arrange guided tours with tour guides in attendance, which depart from the various stops. Each Tram-and-Art council will have a spatial range of one and a half kilometers, the equivalent of a 20-minute walk. At the moment the service includes the 26 stops of the T1 line from Villa Costanza to Careggi and the 12 of the T2 from Unit d’Italia to Peretola, but will expand to the new lines.

an idea born before the pandemic – said Caterina Paolucci – but which now acquires even more meaning after many families have decided to go and live in the suburbs of the city. The 200 places have been divided into 5 categories: Top Attractions, Museums and Churches, Parks and Sports, Shows and Culture, Shops and Markets. Each place has a dedicated page with photos, description, practical and historical information. An unusual way to discover the city and its hidden beauties underlines the tourism councilor Cecilia Del Re. For the councilor for mobility Stefano Giorgetti a project to be extended in the future throughout the Florentine territory.
