The French star is 80, and her mother lived to be 109 years old
On October 22, French star Catherine Deneuve celebrates her 80th birthday. The recent 76th Cannes Film Festival was held under the sign of her anniversary, placing on the poster a photograph taken in 1968 on the set of the film “Confusion” by Alain Cavalier based on the novel by Francoise Sagan. Deneuve has been working in cinema for 60 years.

She came as a queen, but worked out to the smallest detail what was prescribed by the contract. She is a supporter of strict discipline in everything. She was raised this way from childhood by her parents who worked in the theater. She didn’t like it when things were forced on her. I left gifts in the hotel room because they gave me ridiculous things. However, from Essentuki Deneuve took away a fur coat, which was given to her by craftsmen proud of such an honor. During her visits, she preferred national cuisine – Russian and Tatar – to European cuisine; she asked to be taken to the market, where she could buy knitted socks or mittens from old women.
Five years ago in Essentuki, and this was probably her last visit to Russia, Catherine Deneuve said in an interview with MK that her mother was 106 years old. Renee Simoneau, who was also an actress, died on July 11, 2021, when she was 109 years old, and, as her famous daughter said, she was aging gracefully. The word “old age” does not apply to Deneuve herself – both beauty and beauty cannot be taken away from her.
In our conversation, Catherine Deneuve shared her impressions of Russia and spoke about the art of travel: “I don’t plan for a long time, I do what I think is necessary, I love surprises. I have been to Russia many times, but this is how I fully understood your country. When traveling, I definitely want to see how people live, see the historical part of the city, monuments, architecture, go to a bar or coffee shop, and always watch TV. This is the only way to get to know a foreign country.”
A year ago, we re-released one of Deneuve’s main films – “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg” by Jacques Demy with music by Michel Legrand. This is where her stellar career began. This is one of the most honest films about the Algerian war, despite the apparent ease of being on the screen.
After its release, Deneuve became a star, a goddess of style, and never left this position. All this might not have happened. The main role was to be played by Eurovision winner Isabelle Oubre. However, after a car accident, she was injured and was unable to film. Then director Roger Vadim advised Demi to pay attention to his 20-year-old passion, Catherine. The young actress had to lose 10 kilograms, dye her hair and become blonde. In addition, she was pregnant, but this also worked for the picture. At the 1964 Cannes Film Festival, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg was awarded the Palme d’Or. Curls, headbands, and a cloak, like Genevieve, played by Catherine, became symbols of the 60s. Women all over the world imitated her. Since then, Deneuve has been known as a trendsetter – and she never chases fashion herself.
