President Daniel Noboa assured that Adolfo Macías, alias ‘Fito’, the leader of Los Choneros who is a fugitive, is not the only leader of a criminal organization that the Government is tracking.

And he assured that the situation of criminal groups in Ecuador is different from that of other organizations, such as those led by Pablo Escobar and Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, in Colombia and Mexico, respectively.

In an interview with the CNN news network on the night of Sunday, February 25, the president expressed that “the leader of Los Choneros is greatly glorified.”

“There are several bosses, some call them, leaders of narco-terrorist groups, others call them. They are following his (Fito’s) trail, but not only him,” Noboa assured and added that, in addition to Los Choneros, there is a fight against other organizations, such as Los Lobos or Los Tiguerones.

Noboa also expressed that these criminal organizations are not comparable to those that have existed in other countries with drug trafficking problems, such as Colombia or Mexico.

Comparisons with Bukele

In the interview, the president referred to the comparisons that exist between him and Nayib Bukele, president of El Salvador, due to security policies. Noboa assured that the comparisons do not bother him, but that the reality of Ecuador is very different from that of the Central American country.

“Ecuador is also a different country, a multicultural country. “We are not talking about mega prisons, we are talking about maximum security prisons,” she explained.
