Between 10% and 15% higher pay for seasonal workers is offered by hoteliers and restaurateurs for the summer. However, the recruitment crisis is deepening. Employers complain that people with experience and skills are few.

“Hiring chefs will be a challenge for this season. There are no personnel suitable for these positions in Bulgaria. We succeed by bringing in foreign staff – from Ukraine, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan,” says Petar Petkov, head chef of a chain of hotels.

“We are currently looking for waiters, piccolo – this is exactly a profession for young people to practice their languages. Our guests are mainly Western Europeans – Germans, English. Schools churn out young people who have no professional orientation. Not everyone can study to become managers,” commented Valcho Valchev, manager of a hotel in Sunny Beach.

The industry is calling for more practical training in secondary education.

Between BGN 1,000 and BGN 2,000 is the officially offered salary for seasonal workers, according to data from the Bureau of Labor in Burgas.

“Our jobs will be advertised nationwide so that the unemployed from other labor offices in the interior can also apply. Last year we were successful in this direction – an employer participating in the exchange hired unemployed people from Svishtov”, explained Tatyana Nikolova, director of the Burgas Labor Bureau.

Vacancies will be distributed through the Employment Agency, bTV reports.
