In the latest Podast program of AIAS, former Sony Interactive Entertainment President Shuhei Yoshida had a conversation with “Final Fantasy XVI” producer Naoki Yoshida. Naoki Yoshida said that “Final Fantasy XVI” was originally planned to be launched on the Sony PS4 platform.

Naoki Yoshida revealed the reason why he ultimately gave up on this project: to achieve a better gaming experience, the image quality had to be reduced. He said that the team tried to solve the loading problem on PS4 by reducing the image quality in some parts, lowering the image quality to even lower than that of “Final Fantasy XV”.

“We want to create the best story experience that can make players feel like they are on a roller coaster from beginning to end, without any loading lag during the game, and be amazed by everything in front of them.”

Naoki Yoshida also said that he thinks it will be difficult to do this on PS4. Therefore, he explained the above reasons to the company and hoped that the top management would allow him to focus only on the development of the PS5 version from the beginning.

Previously, Naoki Yoshida revealed in an interview with Famitsu that he at least “didn’t imagine” making a sequel or derivative work of “Final Fantasy XVI”. The team has accumulated a lot of knowledge from this work and is considering using this knowledge to meet “new challenges”, such as making the next work when possible, rather than making one work for a long time.

But when he talked about whether there would be “Final Fantasy XVI” related works in the future, he gave a very vague answer: “I don’t know if there is, I don’t know what will happen, so I still won’t say anything (too) certain Already.”
