Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that Russia will respond “appropriately” if NATO builds infrastructure in Sweden and Finland.

Putin made the threat after signing an agreement that would lead the Nordic countries Sweden and Finland to join the Western alliance NATO.

Putin has said he cannot rule out the possibility of “tensions” in Moscow’s relations with Helsinki and Stockholm.

Speaking at a news conference in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, “We do not have problems in Sweden and Finland like in Ukraine. We have no territorial differences.

If Finland and Sweden want, they can join. It’s up to them. They can join whatever they want, ”he said.

However, he warned that “if military groups and military infrastructure are stationed there, we are obliged to respond symmetrically and pose the same threats to areas where we are threatened.”

NATO formally invited Finland and Sweden to join the federation on Wednesday, six weeks after Russia provoked its anger by submitting applications.
