Abu Dhabi: The UAE has signed an agreement with France to purchase 80 Rafale fighter jets. Rafale is buying the existing Mirage aircraft to replace it as part of the UAE Air Force. The agreement was signed by the UAE Ministry of Defense. Part of the agreement is the training of military personnel.

Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Nasser Al-Alawi, Commander-in-Chief of the UAE Air Force and Air Defense, said the UAE was scrutinizing the international market for new possibilities. He added that after negotiations with France, an agreement was reached to purchase the most suitable Rafale aircraft for the security and defense of the UAE.

Maj. Gen. al-Alawi, meanwhile, said talks were underway to buy F-35 fighter jets from the United States and that the current agreement with France was not a substitute. He added that this was part of a national security policy to constantly upgrade the military by incorporating new systems and state-of-the-art technology.
