Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Rain Updates: As heavy rain continues in the state, holiday has been announced for educational institutions in nine districts today. Holidays have been announced for educational institutions in Kottayam, Idukki, Wayanad, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Kannur districts. All educational institutions including professional colleges and Anganwadis will remain closed. While holidays have been declared in 9 districts, holidays have been given on taluk basis in some districts. The decision was taken following reports of heavy rainfall in these districts. Following this, the Controller of Examinations informed that all the examinations scheduled to be conducted by Mahatma Gandhi University have been changed. The new date will be announced later.

The holiday will not be applicable to residential schools in Idukki, Palakkad, Wayanad and Thrissur districts. The District Collectors have informed that there will be no change in pre-scheduled exams in Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur and Pathanamthitta districts. Meanwhile, the Central Meteorological Center has warned that heavy rains may occur in Kerala in the coming days. The Meteorological Center has also warned that a low pressure is likely to form in the central West Bay of Bengal by August 7. Following this warning, orange alert has been announced in five districts and yellow alert in 7 districts.

A cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal is also responsible for the rains. It is also reported that it may turn into low pressure by Sunday. Based on this, fishermen are advised not to go to sea. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that due to the prevailing rain warnings in the state and also due to heavy rainfall in the past few days, all the districts should be very careful. He said that the rains will continue in the coming days and hence the warnings should be taken seriously. With the possibility of low pressure formation in the Bay of Bengal being reported by next week, there is a possibility that the rains will intensify again.
