State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that Bangladesh needs huge investment in renewable energy transition. A country of 180 million people needs to build efficient infrastructure to switch from fossil fuels to renewables. A huge amount of money is needed.

He said that if Germany comes forward with technology and financial (grant or loan) assistance, Bangladesh will welcome it. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set a target of generating 40 percent of Bangladesh’s total electricity generation from renewable energy sources by 2040. Bangladesh expects financial and technical support from developed countries to meet such targets.

The Minister of State said this while meeting German State Secretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action of the Federal Foreign Office, Jennifer Lee Morgan, on the second day of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2024 in Berlin, Germany today.

This information was informed in a press release of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources.

At this time, Nasrul Hamid also said that we want to use Germany’s experience in building sustainable development and climate change tolerant conditions. Germany can help us expand wind power, wind gas, hydropower and offshore wind. Germany’s experience and cooperation will make a special contribution to achieving our goals in renewable energy. I hope that the government-level dialogue with Germany next May will increase Germany’s participation in wind power and waste-to-energy production.

The Minister of State for Power also said that Germany’s cooperation in implementing Bangladesh’s firm commitment to sustainable development will help build a sustainable and resilient future.

Jennifer Lee Morgan, Germany’s Secretary of State and Special Envoy for International Climate Action at the Federal Foreign Office, said that reducing carbon emissions and creating a livable environment is a priority for Germany. We can work together to promote energy security and renewable energy. He gave special importance on mutual cooperation at this time.
