Member of Parliament I. Chanakian has said that if the government spends the money spent on the Independence Day and the health of the ministers on agriculture in a non-independent country, the standard of living of the farmers and the people of the country will improve.

He expressed this opinion while addressing the parliamentary session held yesterday (22).

In this regard, he further said, “Our people living in the north and east rely on agriculture, animal husbandry and fishing for their livelihood.

But due to the racist action of the government, without declaring our grazing land through the gazette, our Tamil people who own cattle have been forced to sell their cattle due to the fact that the majority tribe has come to settle and do agriculture.

Also, people involved in agriculture are unable to start farming and this is a problem not only in Batticaloa district but also in Verugal, Trincomalee and Amparai.

Minister of Agriculture

Therefore, the Minister of Agriculture will get a proper solution to these problems and during the period of 2024, those who set up illegal settlements will not be included in the Mahavali Ganga B zone and are engaged in agricultural activities by establishing illegal settlements.

The solution for this should be discussed by the Chancellor, the Minister of Agriculture and the minister concerned.

“In Batticaloa, some lands have been affected by floods due to the Wellaveli and Porativu floods, but the Insurance Co-operation has not provided compensation to our affected people till date,” he said.
