The opening of direct flights from Belarus to Crimea will help increase the tourist flow to the peninsula, RIA Novosti reported with reference to the head of the Committee on Tourism, Resorts and Sports of the Crimean Parliament Alexei Chernyak.

“The launch of direct flights between Belarus and Crimea will significantly increase the tourist flow, reduce the cost of tours and remove transport logistics inconveniences. Now Belarusians have to fly to Crimea with transfers, ”Chernyak said.

He added that in 2019 about 20 thousand tourists from Belarus rested in Crimea. “Despite the forced transfer in Moscow and the sanctions, tourists from Belarus flew to Crimea, and with the opening of direct flights, their number will increase significantly. These flights will be in great demand, ”said Chernyak.

In his opinion, it is also necessary to work out the launch of a direct rail link between Belarus and the peninsula.

Earlier today, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin he discussed the issue of opening flights between the republic and Crimea.

Earlier, the largest Belarusian national carrier Belavia said that as of May 31, it had to suspend flights to 21 countries. Routes to 9 countries remain relevant – these are 17 cities / airports. The reductions in destinations were due to the EU’s decision to close its airports to Belavia and to recommend European airlines to avoid Belarusian airspace due to the incident with the Ryanair aircraft on 23 May.

Then the board of the Irish low-cost airline, while crossing the territory of Belarus, was forced to make an emergency landing at the Minsk airport due to a message about mining, which was not subsequently confirmed. After landing, the former editor-in-chief of the Nexta Telegram channel recognized as extremist in Belarus, Roman Protasevich, and his girlfriend, Russian woman Sofya Sapega, were removed and detained. Both are now under arrest.
