Do we speak the same language? If you write “language” with a “u”, surely not: we’ll have to speak English. But how did such a crude shell become so common? It’s quite simple to understand.
«G» + «a» = «ga»
Let’s start by remembering our first grade classes. “B” + “a” = “ba”, “g” + “a” = “ga”. This is why we write “bagage” and not “baguage”, “garage” and not “guarage” and… “langage” and not “language”. It’s that simple, really.
But then, where does this so common “u” come from?
From our English classes, a few years later. Because, in the language of Shakespeare, the rules are different: we do indeed write “ language “. From here to mixing the brushes and substituting the English word for the French word, there is only one step… which many of us take without paying attention (and not “guarde”).
Language does not help us
