The International Pharmaceutical Federation announced the theme of World Pharmacist Day on September 25. This year’s theme is Pharmacies Working Together for a Healthier World. Pharmacy week celebration is going on from 19th to 25th of this month. As part of the profession in this sector, 40 lakh people including pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists from all over the world participate in the week-long celebrations.

Organized activity on World Pharmacist Day is organized every year under the auspices of the Pharmaceutical Federation. The goals of this year’s campaign are to promote the pharmacy profession, expose the positive impact of pharmacy on health worldwide, and strengthen solidarity within the profession.

The Covid-19 pandemic has disrupted progress in healthcare. It is imperative to ensure the role of pharmacists in the process of recovering the health sector in a very good way. The main duty of every pharmacist is to use their skills and knowledge to support the advancement of the health and well-being of the world. Pharmaceutical Federation President Dominic Jordan has called for this duty to overcome organizational conflicts, political differences, cultures and economic disparities and show the world that pharmacists work together for health care.

World Pharmacist Day was recognized at the World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2009. The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), a global federation of national associations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists, has recognized 25 September as Pharmacist Day. The aim of the day is to recognize and promote the role of pharmacists in improving health in all corners of the world.

Pharmacists have a critical role to play in ensuring patient safety by improving medication use and addressing medication supply inefficiencies. Many patients experience side effects from medications that lead to permanent injury, prolonged health care activities, and sometimes death.

The main factor behind such incidents is wrong prescription. Pharmacists have a critical role to play in reducing or eliminating this global challenge.
