A man has been arrested for defrauding the Ministry of Labor and Foreign Employment by claiming to get jobs in the agricultural sector in Israel using the names of senior officials.
The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau announced that the man was arrested by the officers of the Special Investigation Unit.
It has been revealed that the said person is a resident of Colombo 07, Wijerama Mawatha and he has introduced himself as a doctor.
Financial fraud
Also, the suspect called people to the Foreign Employment Ministry and Foreign Employment Bureau in Narahenpitiya to receive money.
Investigation revealed that the suspect had defrauded 7 lakh 65 thousand rupees from 9 people and was arrested with the help of the Ministry of Industry and Foreign Employment on the basis of a complaint lodged by a person who gave him money.
Further investigation
In this case, it is reported that after bringing the suspect to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, the Magistrate has ordered him to be remanded until April 3rd.
Also, it is noteworthy that his wife, who helped in this fraud, is absconding, avoiding the investigating officers, so further investigations are being carried out to arrest her.
