When Dhanush joins hands with director Karthik Narain, who has garnered a lot of attention with ‘Pole Sixteen’, it is only natural that there is an expectation that a better film may come out. But, with the advent of ODT sites, the warning feeling that many good directors have kept good actors and given mediocre pictures while filming for ODT could not be avoided.
Maran’s father (Ramki) is a journalist. He is killed for exposing the corruption of an educated father. Maran (Dhanush) then grows up with his sister (Smriti Venkat) in the arms of his uncle (Narain). He also emerges as an honest journalist. They expose the conspiracy of a minister (Samuthirakani) and burn Maran’s sister to death. What Maran does is the rest of the story.
The film is a screenplay for a TV series with a very superficial understanding of media exposure and the problems it causes. Journalists who expose politicians in films from the 80s will be stabbed to death. Sathyaraj and Jaisankar have been killed many times like this. In almost the same fashion, Ramki is killed while his wife is pregnant.
If you look at how the beginning starts with such an old scene, the scenes that come after this are more casual than that. The way the protagonist exposes corruption and the villain’s men chase after it greatly tests the audience’s patience. Many fights begin with the slaves asking, “Give me only that evidence.” Or at the end of the fight, someone asks, “Give me only that evidence.” So what evidence does the protagonist have?
Most of the film moves without any purpose. It is not uncommon for people to watch fast-paced songs and fights while watching movies on ODD. But, it seems that many scenes in this film can be run like that.
Only Smriti Venkat, Dhanush’s younger sister, has acted enthusiastically in this film. As for Dhanush, he has amassed one of the number of films he has acted in. Malvika Mohanan has been silent for almost half of the film. Samuthirakani’s performance as the villain does not have a big chord.
Towards the end of the film, Aamir suddenly makes his debut as a servant named Parthiban. “Do anything you can to expose corruption to the song. So are we affected?” Asks the question, with the tone of asking the most reasonable question. Then, like Dhanush, we are stunned.
Any one aspect of the most modest films will cause attraction. It is difficult to find such a feature in this film.
