Why settle for watching a shared screen – if you can also change things in it?

Although in recent weeks the corona is getting a bit off the headlines, that does not really mean that “work from home” or hybrid work is going anywhere, and we are expected to have quite a few more video calls with co-workers on and off. One of the most useful features in these video calls is of course the screen sharing, a feature that is now being upgraded under the auspices of Microsoft.

Share screen to the end

As part of Build, its annual developer conference, Microsoft unveiled a new Live Share feature feature in Teams, which allows you to not only view the presenter’s screen but also control what happens on it. So if the exhibitor shares a screen with a three-dimensional model – as you can see in the example above – you can control for yourself the rotation and angle at which you see the object. In fact, as part of the Microsoft demo, the development of the Hexagon company was introduced, which allows the various participants to rotate the object, get closer or further away from it, attach notes and even actually edit it – everything from the conversation screen will be mentioned.

Another demo that Satya Nadella presented on stage was from Skillsoft, which showed how to edit a video within a Teams conversation – including recording editorial comments and suggestions from the various participants on the film and the work area.

It is quite easy to understand where this is going, as call participants will be able to share documents for viewing or editing online etc. It is no coincidence that, apart from Hexagon and Skillsoft, Microsoft also initially introduced integrations of the new feature in Teams with the products of Frame.io, MakeCode, Accenture, Parabol and Breakthru. The new feature is based on Fluid – a familiar Microsoft framework – a collection of JavaScript libraries that enable this sharing in real time – along with the Azure Fluid Relay service and Teams SDK.
