New Study Reveals Best Clothing Colors Based on Eye Color

A recent study conducted by researchers from the University of St Andrews has found that the color of clothing that suits an individual best is determined by their eye color. The study revealed that people with blue eyes look their best in ‘cool’ blue hues, while those with dark brown eyes are most flattering in orange or red fabrics.

Lead author of the study, Professor David Perrett, highlighted the significance of eye color in determining clothing choices. He stated, “The emphasis on skin color for personal clothing color choice is misplaced. Skin tone may be important at a distance, such as for modeling on a catwalk, but for intimate encounters, such as lunch or an in-person interview, it’s the eyes that matter.”

The researchers conducted two experiments to test their findings. In the first experiment, photos of white women with both light and dark skin, hair, and eyes were shown to participants. They were then asked to choose which clothes suited each face the best, with color options across the whole spectrum. The results revealed that reds were chosen for the originally dark faces, while blues were chosen for the originally light faces.

In the second experiment, participants were shown images of people with both light and dark eyes. They were then shown images where their eyes had been transplanted to the opposite color. The participants consistently chose blues for images with light eyes and oranges and reds for images with dark eyes, regardless of whether they were natural or transplanted.

The researchers note that this study only involved white women and that the findings may vary for people of other ethnic backgrounds or genders.

This study challenges traditional notions of clothing color choices based on skin tone. It suggests that the color of one’s eyes plays a significant role in determining the most flattering clothing colors. So, if you want to look your best, it might be time to consider the color of your eyes when choosing your outfit.
