DNA analyzes confirmed this Sunday that the skeletal remains that were found the day before in the vicinity of the French village of Haut-Vernet, in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, lost to Émile Soleil. This is the two and a half year old boy who disappeared in the month of July, when he was spending the summer at his grandparents’ house.
The discovery puts an end to more than eight months of intense search and opens a new stage in the investigation of the facts, fundamentally to clarify the circumstances of the death of the little one. The autopsy has not revealed the cause or the exact date of death. There was nothing left of Emile except his bones and his skull.
However, it is expected that police investigations will determine at least whether the minor died in the place where he was found or if -on the contrary- someone put them there. The surroundings of the hamlet were thoroughly searched by the gendarmes, who established a search perimeter of five kilometers.
Suspicions are hovering again the little one’s maternal grandfather, although the French police insist that this route is being investigated “at the same level” as the others. The man, under investigation for alleged abuse and sexual assault committed in the early 1990s at a private religious school in Pas-de-Calais, is the person in charge of the minor on the day of his disappearance.
