Turbine blades broke in a Russian nuclear power plant where two reactors were installed, which are also being built in Turkey and which are planned for Hungary during the Paks expansion, wrote the Guardian following the announcement of the Russian state nuclear energy company.

Roszenergoatom said they do not yet know what could have caused the problem at the Leningrad plant, but one of the units built in 2018 had to be shut down due to broken turbine blades. A new generation, VVER 1200, pressurized water reactor is operating here, just like the one planned for the Paks 2 power plant, which has already started to be built in Turkey at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant, and such reactors are already operating in Belarus.

Alexander Sutikovhead of Roszenergoatom, said that the 1,200 megawatt turbines Alexey Mordasov made by his company, Power Machines. The company claimed that the same turbines have been working elsewhere since 2016 and there were no problems with them. The owner of Roszenergoatom, Rosatom, is launching an investigation into the matter.

Recently, Mordasov has been in the news for another case: it turned out that he sponsored a German journalist’s books about Vladimir Putin with 600,000 euros.
