With the start of the season in mind, our golf team has answered some pressing questions about the sport, including predictions for who needs a big 2024, who will be the breakout star, and whose stock to sell for the upcoming year.
Collin Morikawa is predicted to need a big year to solidify his status as an elite player, after some disappointments in the past seasons. Dustin Johnson, despite his past successes, needs to step up and add to his legacy by performing better in major championships. Another player in need of a breakout year is Cameron Young, who has yet to secure an actual PGA Tour victory despite being a talented player.
As for breakout stars, Min Woo Lee and Ludvig Aberg are the top picks. Lee, an Australian golfer, has quietly risen in rankings and is predicted to have a breakthrough year. Aberg, on the other hand, is already a star in the golf world but has the potential to become a household name in 2024 with his first major championships appearance.
On the flip side, the golf team predicts that Wyndham Clark, Lucas Glover, and Cameron Smith may not have stellar performances in 2024. While Clark had an impressive 2023, there are doubts about his ability to maintain that level of performance. Glover, 44, is unlikely to continue the winning streak he had in 2023, and Smith’s recent form has raised concerns about his future performances in the majors.
