Seizure of ten abandoned containers loaded with kevazingo at the Getman company storage site

Libreville, October 31, 2023 – The Minister of Water and Forests in charge of the Preservation of the Environment, Climate and Human-Wildlife Conflict, Colonel Maurice Ntossui Allogo, after being informed of the presence of several wooden containers, went to the former warehouse site of the Getman company located in Owendo to get a sense of reality and find out about the situation.
The field visit made it possible to detect the presence of approximately ten (10) abandoned containers loaded with kevazingo, the cutting of which has been prohibited in Gabon since 2018.
“We very quickly alerted the judicial services, in particular the General Directorate of Counter-Inferences and Military Security. A certain number of woods, apparently undeclared, are found on this site. We believe it is abandoned wood. If this is confirmed, this wood will have to be sold.” An investigation will be carried out by the competent authorities in order to shed light on these facts,” declared the Minister of Forests.
Indeed, woods abandoned or exploited without authorization are the property of the State which can
legitimate to proceed with their valorization.
