Shimron Hetmyer has been dropped from the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup and two-match T20 series after missing his flight to Australia. Hetmyer had already rescheduled his flight to Australia from last Saturday’s departure date, but today informed the team that he will not be traveling on his rescheduled flight. “As flight availability has been a challenge, he has secured a seat to fly to Australia today, meaning he will miss the 1st T20 International against Australia on Wednesday, October 5 at the Metricon Stadium,” West Indies said in a statement.

This morning, Hedmire informed the Director of Cricket that he would not be able to make it to the airport in time for his flight to New York this afternoon. The 25-year-old left-hander has been replaced by 34-year-old Shamar Brooks, who has played 11 T20Is for the West Indies. Windies director of cricket Jimmy Adams said: “Due to family reasons we have moved Shimron’s flight from Saturday to Monday and it has been made clear to him that we have no choice if there are further delays and complications in his travel to Australia. Averaged 40.16, he scored an unbeaten 56 in his last T20 innings against New Zealand in August.The West Indies open their campaign against Scotland in the first qualifier of the T20 World Cup at the Blundstone Stadium in Hobart.
