Skoda has unveiled the EPIQ SUV, the entry model into the electric worlds of the Czech manufacturer that is expected to have a price tag of 25,000 euros. This is what we know about him

Skoda is expanding its electric family, which currently only includes the Aniac and Aniac Coupe, with an entry-level model in the popular leisure configuration that lives up to the name Epiq (from the word epic – a work containing a heroic story). A somewhat pretentious name for a small recreational vehicle, but one that tries to illustrate Skoda’s intentions to present an electric model at an accessible price, with the expectation being 25,000 euros. For comparison, the dwarf microlino is priced at around 18,000-20,000 euros. In any case, Skoda also explains that the name was chosen according to the familiar symbol of its models – E as a symbol for electricity and Q as a symbol for being a recreational vehicle.

Marketing in Europe is only planned for next year, but even before the intriguing route, Skoda will reveal the ELROQ, a compact electric recreation that will be bolted under the familiar Aniac. After the launch of the two new models, Skoda states that in the coming years they will reach an offer of 6 models and will present two more new models, which in the meantime are given nicknames that hint at their purpose – “Combi” (electric station wagon) and “Spice” (leisure with 7 seats).

Already from an external point of view, you can see that the Apik presents Skoda’s new design language. The daytime running lights and taillights are in the shape of the letter T, the front lights will offer an option for Matrix-LED lighting, and in the bumpers there are prominent grooves that give it a tougher look alongside familiar leisure features such as side skirts and wheelhouse arches made of black plastic, roof rails and a simulated underbelly guard.

The interior design has straight lines stretching across the dashboard, a tiny dashboard in front of the driver, and a floating multimedia screen in the center of the dashboard. The console between the seats completely separates the driver from the passenger and includes a basic piano with buttons, which implies that the rest of the operations have to be done from the multimedia screen and the steering wheel. There is also a digital key, a wireless charging pad and Skoda promises not to give up the smart features such as various hanging wires and storage compartments under the floor.

The channel will offer two-way charging technology, a technology known from other manufacturers and with different names, the purpose of which is the possibility of connecting to the electricity grid and transferring energy from the vehicle to light the house, for example, or V2L technology that allows the operation and charging of external electrical devices.

Skoda Epic will be produced in the factories of the Volkswagen concern in Pamplona, Spain. This is the same plant that currently produces the Volkswagen Polo and T-Cross, so its conversion to electricity could hint at the imminent arrival of the Volkswagen ID.2 for example. The trunk is 4.1 meters long, similar to the Volkswagen T-Cross, but the trunk is more generous and has an expected volume of 490 liters. Skoda promises a driving range of over 400 km, but they have not yet specified whether it is an urban or combined driving range.
