Social Democrats Call for Increased Supply of Ammunition to Ukraine
The Social Democrats have proposed stepping up the supply of ammunition to Ukraine in an effort to support the war-torn country. The government is being urged by the party to create new production lines for ammunition and pursue bilateral collaborations to address the issue.
Peter Hultqvist, the defense policy spokesperson for the Social Democrats, emphasized the need for state guarantees in relation to the industry during a recent press conference. According to Hultqvist, ammunition support to Ukraine cannot rely solely on donations from military stores.
When questioned about how the proposal would be funded, the Social Democrats stated that it should be done in addition to the regular defense budget. They also argued that the increased production of ammunition for Ukraine would not negatively affect Sweden’s own ammunition requirements.
“We need to ensure that we maintain our current stockpile levels, but expanding production will also improve the situation in our warehouses,” Hultqvist explained.
The proposal put forth by the Social Democrats aims to provide much-needed support to Ukraine during this difficult time. By increasing the supply of ammunition, they hope to contribute to the country’s defense efforts and help alleviate the ongoing crisis.
