Bangladesh National Parliament Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury MP participated in the 213rd session of the Governing Council held on the occasion of ‘148th IPU Assembly’ in Geneva, Switzerland today along with the parliamentary delegation.
At the beginning of the session, the agendas of the 213rd session of the Governing Council were adopted and the summary of the records of the 212nd session was approved.
Later, the president of IPU. Tulia Akson gave a brief description of the various activities carried out since the 212nd session. Afterwards, IPU Secretary General Martin Chunggong presented the IPU Impact Report 2023.
In this session, the Sixth World Speaker Conference to be held in Geneva in 2025 was discussed. Besides, the Governing Council also discussed various activities of the Task Force for a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
The session concluded with a discussion on the 2024 Kramer-Passey Prize.
At that time, as members of the parliamentary delegation, Chief Whip of Jatiya Sangsad Noor-i-Alam Chowdhury MP, Shafiqul Islam MP, Mahbub Ur Rahman MP, Shahadara Mannan MP, Nilufar Anjum MP, HM Badiuzzaman MP, Md. Mujibul Haque MP, Akhtaruzzaman MP and Senior Secretary KM Abdus Salam of Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present.
