Early on Friday morning, a strong earthquake occurred off Rhodes in the sea area between the island and Turkey.
Specifically, according to his revised solution Geodynamic Institute, the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.6 on the Richter scale, occurred at 06:2, 16 km northeast of Rhodes, with its focal depth estimated at 45.8 km.
As seismologist Efthymios Lekkas reported to ERT, the earthquake is not superficial, it has a sufficiently large depth, while he estimated that there will be no problem for the continuation of the phenomenon.
“We don’t have a problem with the continuation of the phenomenon because these earthquakes usually occur alone without meaning that they are aftershocks or will be followed by a rich seismic sequence. They usually manifest on their own and that’s the end of the matter,” he stressed.
