On Wednesday March 20, 2024, the CIS Médias Media group was closed until further notice. Workers claiming 18 months of arrears stopped all activities of television, radio and the CIS Médias news site in Lambanyi.

These media men decided to announce the demonstration live on the CIS Médias TV channel while waiting for the Union of Press Professionals of Guinea (SPPG). Which was interrupted by the men in uniform who ordered them to leave the premises.

A few minutes earlier, the Executive Director, Alpha Mady Touré said in his address to journalists:

“The CEO has decided to close the door on the building. Demonstration is a right, you can continue to demonstrate in the meantime but for the moment its decision is to close. I’m going to speak with Mr. Pendessa.

Expecting the arrival of the CEO of the media group, it was instead the men in uniform who showed up on the scene demanding an evacuation of the premises.

“We have just received the order to come and close the premises, please come out,” informed a man in uniform.

Present on the scene, the general secretary of the SPPG, expressed his solidarity with the workers while signaling the opening of mediation between CEO Antonio Souaré and his employees.

“We met with both camps, first the employees who are directly affiliated with the SPPG then the management. We have listened to both camps and what remains clear there are arrears that management owes to employees, they do not deny it.

The file must be known by the CEO but this morning’s movement further reinforced the message at the highest level. So he (DG) will meet the CEO Mr. Souaré and the union will also certainly meet Mr. Souaré in the following hours. This is the latest news that you need to remember…In the meantime we ask you to return to your homes, the message has already been sent,” maintained the union official.

Regarding the closure of the premises, the union official replied: “you know, in accordance with the labor code, the employer has the right to close his business. What we can do is demand the right. We also do not have the right to attack the premises of a business. They are inviolable. We must help each other in the truth. Fortunately you were quite responsible, that was my worry but I came despite the traffic jams we were wondering what was going to happen there before our arrival. Good thing you maintained a peaceful disposition until we arrived. Nothing was touched. Continue in this vein, the rest we will manage and we try to do it as quickly as possible.

With these words, the CIS Médias group has been closed until further notice.
