DMK Accused of Failing to Address NEET Concerns, Leading to Tragic Suicide

Chennai: The AIADMK General Secretary, Edappadi Palaniswami, has accused the DMK of neglecting the concerns related to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and failing to take action. In a statement, Palaniswami alleged that the DMK has not once pressed the central government to adjourn the parliamentary Lok Sabha in order to cancel the NEET entrance exam.

The accusation comes in the wake of a tragic incident in Chennai, where a 19-year-old student named Jegatheeswaran took his own life after failing the NEET examination. Tragically, his father also committed suicide today, unable to bear the grief of losing his son. Palaniswami expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace.

Palaniswami also criticized the Chief Minister MK Stalin and his son, who is the leader of the opposition party, for making unfulfillable promises during the elections to gain power. One such promise was the cancellation of NEET.

The AIADMK leader further stated that the DMK continued to campaign against NEET throughout the state, assuring the public that they would abolish it if they came to power. However, Palaniswami accused the DMK of diverting the students and the public with empty slogans, claiming that Stalin knew how to cancel NEET.

The AIADMK leader highlighted the hypocrisy of the DMK, stating that they ridiculed the AIADMK government’s efforts against NEET while they were in power. However, after coming to power, the DMK also passed a resolution against NEET. Palaniswami criticized the lack of action from the DMK in pressing the central government to cancel the entrance exam.

Expressing concern over the loss of lives due to the NEET exam, Palaniswami emphasized that there are alternative options for students apart from pursuing a career in medicine. He urged students and parents not to make life-altering decisions based on the results of a single exam.

Palaniswami also highlighted the steps taken by the AIADMK government to support government school students in pursuing medical studies. He introduced internal reservation of 7.5 percent in medical courses for government school students and established special training courses for NEET.

However, Palaniswami lamented that the DMK government had closed these special training courses and failed to provide self-confidence training to students and parents. He urged the Chief Minister to take immediate action and reinstate the training courses for government school students.

In conclusion, Palaniswami urged the DMK government to stop making false promises about canceling NEET and instead consult legal experts to find a solution. He emphasized the need for the government to address the concerns of students and parents and ensure a fair and equitable system for medical entrance exams.
