The Russian oil magnate fell ‘accidentally’ from the window: Putin’s assassination?

Ravil Maganov, a senior Russian businessman, fell to his death today (Thursday) from a hospital window in Moscow at the age of 67. Maganov served as chairman of the board of directors of Lukoil, the largest private oil company in Russia. Shortly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the company he headed called for an end the conflict as soon as possible and expressed her condolences to the ‘victims of the tragedy’.

On behalf of the ‘Lukaoil’ company it was reported that he passed away following a “severe illness”. A news agency affiliated with the police speculated that he slipped from the horseshoe while smoking a cigarette. Maganov is the latest in a series of cases in which Russian businessmen with ties to the energy industry have died under mysterious circumstances – six since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, some of them were killed along with their families. Not one of them was investigated as a murder by the authorities.

Maganov was a prominent member of Russia’s business elite. He started working for the company in 1993 and since then has progressed through its ranks until he was appointed chairman in 2020. In 2019 he even received an award for his work from Russian President Putin.
