The Ukrainian Security Service said it had neutralized the military counterintelligence agent network of the Russian Federal Security Service, which included current and former employees of the Ukrainian special services.

As the SBU reported on Tuesday, February 6, a total of five members of the group were detained during a multi-stage special operation. Among them are ex-officials of the Main Intelligence Directorate, the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, as well as an employee of the regional department of the SBU.

“The task of this intelligence network was to transmit to the aggressor intelligence information about the Defense Forces and strategically important energy facilities of our state,” the SBU said.

Law enforcement officials said that the defendants had a common curator – an FSB officer who now lives in occupied Crimea. The Russian intelligence service recruited them, in particular, by threatening to kill their families; For completed tasks, group members received money.

According to the investigation, the ex-foreign intelligence official was recruited even before the full-scale Russian invasion, when he was in the service. Since then, he has been collecting information about the locations of the Ukrainian military, and after February 24, 2022, about the channels for transporting foreign weapons to Ukraine, the SBU says.

The defendant also provided the FSB with secret information about the peculiarities of the operation and security system of the Rivne and Khmelnitsky nuclear power plants. He provided all the data through an accomplice who traveled abroad as a volunteer and personally reported to the resident of the Russian special service, and especially sensitive information on a flash drive through smugglers from the border regions of Ukraine, the SBU said.

Another Russian agent, who previously served in the Main Intelligence Directorate, according to law enforcement, leaked personal data of Ukrainian defenders to Russia.

Another defendant, an SBU employee, scouted for the occupiers the geolocation of fortifications and engineering barriers near the coastline of the Odessa region.

The SBU informed five members of the intelligence network of suspicion under Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason). He chose a preventive measure in the form of detention.
