US House of Representatives Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner said that the United States is preparing a plan to respond to the alleged new Russian threats by placing a nuclear weapon in space.

Turner added in an interview with NBC News: “Washington has begun preparing a plan to respond to Russia’s development of anti-satellite weapons in space,” noting that Jake Sullivan, Assistant to the US President for National Security Affairs, began laying the foundations for this plan.
At the same time, Turner did not confirm or deny the validity of reports in the media indicating that the new threat is linked to nuclear weapons, saying: “The threat is very serious and I am happy that the administration of President Joe Biden has begun to take the necessary measures in this regard.”
ABC News had reported, citing its sources, that “Russia is planning to deploy nuclear weapons in space for use against satellites.” The Chairman of the US House of Representatives Intelligence Committee, Mike Turner, warned of “a serious threat to national security,” and US President Joe Biden called for it to be declassified until “Measures to confront it can be investigated.”
White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that he “scheduled a secret meeting with the leadership of Congress on this matter.”
For his part, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov responded, commenting on the rumors of Russia’s intention to deploy nuclear weapons in space: “We have seen these messages, which falls within the prevailing trend over the past decade, whereby they attribute to Russia, with malicious intentions on their part, various steps and intentions that do not suit them.”
