The hotel is very famous in São Paulo, the state capital, but the robbery called attention to the audacity of the thieves, who took three cars valued at more than R$ 1 million.
The incident took place at the Hotel Transamérica Berrini, located in the Brooklin neighborhood, in the South Zone of São Paulo, where thieves ignored the security of the place to take expensive cars from guests.
Around 11:00 pm on March 20, a Toyota Corolla entered the hotel premises with four men on board, who overpowered the security guards in order to take keys from the parked vehicles.
Armed with one of them, the gang robbed the hotel parking valets, taking a motorcycle key, as well as a cell phone and a wallet.
However, the target was the cars parked there and a Maserati Ghibli was stolen, as well as an Audi A4 and a VW Tiguan.
Soon after the escape, the police were called and to locate the whereabouts of the bandits, the agents used the GPS location of one of the stolen cell phones and located one of the bandits.
He was in the Campo Limpo neighborhood, being arrested with three cell phones. the motorcycle key and also the Maserati key.
The thief even tried to deceive the police by giving a false name, but was arrested for vehicle theft and already had a police record.
The Ghibli was found near the place where the man was arrested, while the Tiguan was abandoned in Jardim São Luís.
There is no information on the whereabouts of the stolen Audi A4 in the parking lot of the Hotel Transamérica Berrini, who spoke in a note about the case:
“The Hotel Transamérica Berrini informs that on the night of Monday, March 20, around 11:30 pm, a car with 4 occupants entered the first floor of the garage attached to the hotel and there announced a robbery.
The robbers approached the security guards and valets who were at the scene at the first moment, asking if the establishment had cars that could be made available through the TURBI app, and since there were none at that time, the bandits asked for the keys to the cars that were parked on the spot.
And with that they had access to 3 vehicles that were easily accessible from the exit. The Military Police were immediately called by the hotel’s security team, who arrived at the scene within minutes. Remembering that the action did not take more than 20 minutes.
In less than two hours, two cars were recovered and delivered to their owners and a bandit was arrested by the Police. As for the third car, the police already have clues and hope to solve the case completely soon.
According to the hotel’s management, the bandits did not have access to the hotel, nor to the guests and no one was injured. “Unfortunately we had this happen in our garage, but thanks to our security system, access to the hotel was blocked and we didn’t have any major damage. Our team is working to get everything resolved in the best possible way.”
