The Indian metropolis of Mumbai (the central state of Maharashtra) has become the leader among Asian cities in the number of billionaires living there. This conclusion is contained in a study by the Indian rating agency Hurun India, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

According to him, Mumbai has become the capital of Asian billionaires for the first time, ahead of Beijing. The Indian metropolis is home to 92 billionaires versus 91 in the Chinese capital. Nevertheless, in general, China is still ahead of India in terms of the number of residents with a net worth of over $1 billion: China has 814 billionaires, while India has only 271.

Globally, Mumbai has the third highest number of billionaires, after New York (119) and London (97), according to the study.

As noted in the study, since the beginning of 2024, Mumbai has added 26 dollar billionaires. At the same time, in Beijing their number decreased by 18. The total wealth of billionaires in Mumbai is $445 billion.

The areas that have brought multimillion-dollar fortunes to Indians are energy, pharmaceuticals and the real estate market. The first place among the wealthiest Mumbai residents is firmly held by businessman Mukesh Ambani, who owns the Reliance Industries holding, which operates in the fields of energy, petrochemicals, textiles, natural resources, retail trade and telecommunications throughout India. The gold list also includes businessman Gautam Adani, head of the IT consulting company HCL Shiv Nadar, owner of the Serum Institute of India, which produces vaccines, Cyrus Poonawalla, managing director of the pharmaceutical company Sun Pharmaceuticals Dilip Shanghvi, developer Mangal Prabhat Lodha, industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla.
