Two more garment factories in Bangladesh have been recognized as eco-friendly factories. The two companies are: Tangir Windy Apparels Limited, Gazipur and Comfit Banana Leaf, Mirzapur, Tangail. With this, the total number of environment-friendly factories in the country stands at 213. Bangladesh is ahead of other countries in the number of environmentally friendly factories.

This information was informed by Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Saturday (March 16).

Both factories are certified by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). If a factory gets more than 80 out of 110 marks in compliance with 9 conditions of certification, it gets ‘Lead Platinum’, 60-79 gets ‘Lead Gold’, 50-59 gets ‘Lead Silver’ and 40-49 gets ‘Lead Certified’ certificate. is given Out of 110 marks, Windy Apparels got 69 marks and Comfit Banana Leaf got 73 marks and got ‘Lead Gold’ certificate.

According to BGMEA data, there are currently 213 eco-friendly factories with LEAD certification in the ready-made garments and textiles sector. 80 of them are platinum certified leads. Besides, 119 gold, 10 silver and 4 factories have got certified certificates.

Bangladesh has the top 100 highest rated lead green factories in the world. Not only that, 9 of the top 10 factories and 18 of the top 20 highest rated lead green factories are located in Bangladesh.

With these two, the total number of environmentally friendly factories in the country stood at 213; Among them, 80 platinum category factories and 119 gold category factories; There are 10 factories in silver category and 4 factories in certified category.

Windy Apparels received Gold certification by scoring 69 out of 110. They scored 10 out of 10 in the sustainability category; Scored 8 out of 11 on water efficiency; received 24 out of 53 in energy and environment; Scored 5 out of 13 in material and resources; Indoor environment means 2 out of 16; 6 in innovation; Received 4 in 4 regional priority credits; Scored 9 out of 20 in location and communication; Integrative Process received 1 in 1 credits. 69 out of 110 in all.

Comfit Bangladesh got Gold certificate by getting 73 out of 110 marks; They scored a 10 out of 10 in the factory sustainability category; Scored 10 out of 11 in water efficient management; Energy and environment received 15 out of 53; Scored 4 out of 13 in materials and resources; Internal environmental means scored 9 out of 16; Scored 6 out of 6 in innovation; Received 4 in 4 regional priority credits; 14 out of 20 in location and transportation; 1 to 1 in Integrative Process Credits. 73 out of 110 marks in all.
