With Wonka and Dune 2, American Timothée Chalamet recently became the first actor in four decades to star in two of the highest-grossing films released in theaters within eight months of each other. The last time John Travolta did the same was with the musicals Pomade and Saturday Night Fever in 1977 and 1978.
That is also why the film studios wanted to secure further cooperation with the twenty-eight-year-old Chalamet. On Tuesday night, the actor announced that he had signed a deal with Warner Bros. She will be the first to judge whether he is worth his future projects, whether he would act in them or produce them, writes the AP agency. The amount of the contract is not known, only that it covers a period of “several years”.
This does not mean that Chalamet will continue to make films exclusively for Warner Bros. But she will offer all her projects to this company first, and only if she is not interested in them, the actor can start dealing with the competition.
The deal was negotiated on behalf of Warner Bros. Discovery by Mike De Luca and Pamela Abdy, heads of the Warner Bros. film division. Motion Picture Group. But he has only experienced real commercial success in Hollywood in recent years. First, with a pair of science fiction films Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve, where he played the main role and which have already grossed 977 million dollars worldwide, and at the end of last year with the fantasy musical Wonka. Its worldwide sales stopped at $632 million.
According to the website Variety.com, Chalamet earned over eight million dollars, which translates to 186 million crowns, by acting in Wonka. Now he can command double-digit millions of dollars for leading roles.
For the first time, he could ask for such a fee during the possible filming of the science fiction Duna 3, which director Villeneuve had speculated about in advance, but which studio Warner Bros. a month after the premiere of the second part has not yet announced.
Recently, Chalamet not only starred in Luca Guadagnino’s film about cannibalism, To the Bone, he also produced it. His next project also has potential, as he will play singer-songwriter Bob Dylan in the biographical drama A Complete Unknown directed by James Mangold. Warner Bros. Film Division has secured several stars in a similar way since the arrival of Pamela Abda and Michael De Luca in June 2022, most notably Margot Robbie and Tom Cruise earlier this year. This actor, known from the Top Gun and Mission: Impossible series, will even get an office for himself and his production company in the company’s headquarters in Burbank, California, similar to the ones Frank Sinatra or Clint Eastwood used to have there.
