CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. The official selection of the 76th Cannes Film Festival was unveiled this Thursday, April 13, 2023. We take stock of the films in competition and the stars expected on the Croisette.

The Cannes Film Festival begins its 76th edition on May 16, 2023, to animate the Croisette until May 27 to the rhythm of stars and cinema. A month before the launch, the list of films presented in the official selection were presented at a press conference by Thierry Frémaux and Iris Knobloch.
Several personalities will tread the Croisette for this Cannes Film Festival 2023. Among the filmmakers in competition, let us mention the regulars Ken Loach, Wes Anderson or Wim Wenders, but also like Kore-eda Hirokazu or Nanni Moretti. Martin Scorsese will also be present for the screening of Killers of the Flower Moon, and could well join the competition in a few weeks. The Cannes Film Festival lifted the veil on the 2023 official selection on April 13, 2023. Among the films screened on the Croisette are Jeanne du Barry in opening, Killers of the Flower Moon by Martin Scorsese or again Indiana Jones 5 by James Mangold and the short film Strange Way of Life by Pedro Almodovar with Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal. The Cannes Film Festival is traditionally held in the last fortnight of May, a period favored by the organizers. The 76th edition of the largest film festival in the world logically takes place from May 16 to 27, 2023. The opening ceremony will take place on May 16, before the screenings and the many climbs of the steps. It is on May 27 that we will know the names of the winners and the complete prize list.
If it is the stars who make the news at the Cannes Film Festival, it is possible for everyone to participate in the Cannes Film Festival… under certain conditions. Indeed, access to the event is reserved primarily for film professionals and journalists who must be accredited. But cinephiles aged 18 to 28 can also hope to discover films screened on the Croisette thanks to the “Three days in Cannes” pass. We detail how to register and get accredited in detail below:
- Cinema professionals (administrations, artistic agencies, press officers, actors, film commissions, cinema communication and marketing, distribution, exhibitors, film school students, cultural institutions, musicians, producers, directors, technicians, etc. ) can get accredited by going to their personal space on the official festival website. - Cinephiles and educational groups can also request access to the Cannes Film Festival, as part of the “Cannes Cinéphile” program. You must submit an application here, attaching supporting documents according to your status (school certificates for school groups, identity documents, cover letter for film students and members of a cultural association, etc. ). - The “Three Days in Cannes” accreditation allows cinephiles aged 18 to 28 to take part in the event for three days, and to discover films from the official selection and a dedicated programme. To request accreditation, you must provide with your request an identity document, a photo ID, a cover letter and a letter detailing your professional project (optional). Ruben Östlund has been chosen as president of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. A choice that makes sense since the Swedish filmmaker already has two Palmes d’or to his credit: The Squarein 2017, and Sans filtre (Triangle of Sadness) in 2022. We do not yet know the names of the members of the jury who will help him decide on the official selection and will debate alongside him the 2023 winners.
