Starting June 2021, Apple Music will include support for Hi-Fi tracks, as well as the ability to listen to music with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos surround sound. By default, Apple Music automatically plays Dolby Atmos tracks on all AirPods and Beats with an H1 or W1 chip, as well as the built-in speakers of the latest iPhones, iPads, and Macs. At the start, users will be offered more than 75 million songs in lossless format, the number of songs in original quality will gradually grow.
For Hi-Fi tracks, the ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) codec, developed by the company to compress digital music without losing quality, will be used. Subscribers will be able to independently select the sound quality in the application from CD level to Hi-Resolution Lossless, and the quality level can be changed depending on the type of connection (cellular, Wi-Fi and music stored on the device). As noted in Apple, the cost of the subscription after the introduction of new features will not change.
