Olympic women’s archery gold medalists Ki Bo-bae and Seong Min-soo shared their concerns about raising children.
In Channel A’s cultural drama ‘Oh Eun-young’s Golden Counseling Center’, which airs at 8:10 pm on the 26th, Ki Bo-bae appears with Seong Min-soo, who works at a media company. Regarding her husband, who had a warm appearance, Ki Bo-bae said, “He reacted coldly at first, so I was unlucky.” Seong Min-soo responded wittily, saying, “Looking at my pure-white beauty, I think it was because she was so nervous that I couldn’t talk to her.”
Ki Bo-bae married Seong Min-soo in 2017 and gave birth to a daughter the following year. The couple shared her concerns, saying, “We are worried that her 7-year-old daughter may have separation anxiety as she is having a hard time separating from her mother.” Ki Bo-bae said, “I’m most worried about her not being able to do what she needs to do and being unable to separate from her mother. She has a hard time letting go. I sent her to a ballet academy, but one day she couldn’t even open the glass door. She goes to art school as well. “She opens only one classroom door and leaves the door open even though her mother is sitting right there,” she confessed.

Accordingly, Dr. Oh Eun-young, a psychiatrist, understood the couple’s position, saying, “One of the three major concerns of couples with preschool children is separation anxiety.” Seong Min-su said, “When my daughter is with me or her grandmother, she doesn’t have any significant symptoms of separation anxiety. “On my daughter’s 100th day, I took childcare leave for about 6 months to help my wife and daughter prepare for the Tokyo Olympics, and I made my own baby food and worked hard to feed my daughter, so I think I was able to form a good bond with her,” he explained. After hearing this, MC Lee Yoon-ji exclaimed, “I think all mothers across the country will become (Seong Min-soo’s) fans.”
Dr. Oh said, “When 7-year-old children enter elementary school, they still want to be protected by their parents and depend on them, but parents encourage their children to live independently,” adding that 7-year-old children need both dependence and independence. He explained that because children are going through a period, they may feel anxious when separated from their parents.
In addition, Dr. Oh analyzes that “separation anxiety is a type of anxiety. Normal children express that they are scared when they feel anxious, but my daughter really hates being separated from her mother.” She then asks her daughter whether she sleeps well even on weekends when her mother comes. Accordingly, Seong Min-su said, “She usually goes to sleep around 9 p.m., but when her mother comes, she cannot sleep soundly and wakes up several times to check for her mother’s presence.”
Dr. Oh said, “Mother Ki Bo-bae’s life is a regular routine of training on weekdays and seeing family on the weekends, but to her daughter, her mother is a guest who comes once a week,” adding that she does not want to be separated even for a moment during the short time she spends with her mother. She studied at the Department of Elementary and Special Education at Gwangju Women’s University, and in 2022 she graduated with a doctorate in physical education.
