The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that an earthquake of 5.9 on the Richter scale struck the city of Goi in Iran.

The earthquake occurred at 23.44 local time last night. There, the National Earthquake Network site recorded a magnitude of 5.9 on the Richter scale. Two people died as a result of this earthquake. Another 70 people were reported injured.

According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, the tremor was very strong and was felt in many parts of Iran’s West Azerbaijan province. It was also felt in several cities, including Tabriz, the provincial capital of neighboring East Azerbaijan

Khoi is a city and capital of Khoi County in West Azerbaijan Province, Iran. The death toll is feared to rise as many people are receiving intensive care from the quake.
