Club boss Andreas Langenberger (51) couldn’t believe it: Last Friday, the Saudi Arabian Consul General Mohammed Ibrahim M. Alshalfan drove up from Frankfurt – together with his wife, his two children and qualified translator Lahcen El Azirhi.
Langenberger: “Until then, I thought that the hidden camera would still appear somewhere.” TuS Rumbach plays in the C-Class Ost Pirmasens-Zweibrücken, the lowest league in the country.

Langenberger asked consulates and embassies for help
The club boss had his first thoughts during the World Cup in Qatar. Langenberger: “DFB and Fifa pocketed millions at the World Cup in Qatar. And nobody has anything left for us small clubs anyway.” In March 2023 he wrote to several consulates and embassies, asking for support: “That was out of necessity, really the last idea. We are always at the financial minimum and always have to see how we can make ends meet.”
He had told neither his wife nor other colleagues from the club about his initiative. Langenberger: “They would have thought I was completely stupid.”
Andreas Langenberger works full-time in the district administration. TuS Rumbach is a family affair. Both his wife, his daughter and his son are involved in the association.

The Saudi Arabian consulate in Frankfurt replied in mid-April.
The schnapps idea actually became serious!
Consul General Alshalfan promised the club a new set of jerseys over the phone, which he now handed over in person. Alshalfan during his visit to the village of 500: “For me it’s a great opportunity to get to know a small club.”
In return, Langenberger gave him the club Time.news, a pennant and five season tickets for the coming season. It will probably not have been the Consul General’s last visit to the C-League club. Alshalfan: “When I drove in the car, I immediately felt this family life here. It’s not the last time we’ve been here.”
With a smile, he added, “that one player from the club will make it big.”
