BNP Vice Chairman Hafiz Uddin Ahmed alleged that ‘Awami League government is running the country with loyalty to India’.
He made this complaint in a discussion meeting at Reporters Unity in the capital on Saturday (March 23).
Nationalist Mukti Joddha Dal organized this discussion titled ‘Insecure freedom, human rights, and democracy-less endangered Bangladesh: What we should do’.
Hafiz said in the meeting, ‘Kneeling foreign policy is the practice of the current ruling party. When their general secretary (Obaidul Quader) was in danger, he said, “Delhi is there – we are.” They are not ashamed to say such things. Did we fight for it? The people of the country will never accept such slaves.’
This leader of BNP said, ‘BNP is trying hard to realize its goal by promoting the values of freedom. The struggle of BNP is the struggle to regain the voting rights of the people, the struggle to establish democracy.
Hafiz Uddin said, ‘We are struggling for the countrymen. We must win this struggle. In this struggle, even if the hair and beard are ripe, the freedom fighters must lead. You are the ideal of the country. A young person will be inspired by looking at you.’
He said, ‘The struggle we have embarked on to establish democracy cannot fail. Surely there will be an end to misrule. There, the new generation of the liberation war will establish democracy, bring back people’s right to vote.
He said, ‘We have been victims of many injustices and deprivations for 24 years. According to people’s vote Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the prime minister. There is nothing wrong with being the Prime Minister of Pakistan. But the followers of his party now prove that he has given the declaration of independence.
But Tajuddin Ahmed probably met Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the last time after the start of the military movement. He took a tape recorder there and said, you declare independence. Pakistan army forces spread on the streets, they will attack the crowd. He (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) said, I cannot take the responsibility of breaking Pakistan. I will be labeled a separatist if I declare independence. This is the real truth. The then general secretary of Awami League said.
He said, ‘He (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) has many achievements. But Major Ziaur Rahman declared freedom from Chittagong risking his life, this credit should be given. Why is it so incompetent to give credit to others? Why do you want to prove that the brave freedom fighter Ziaur Rahman is a Pakistani agent? They (Awami League) have destroyed the spirit of the liberation war and the democratic system.’
He also said, ‘BNP is increasing the price of goods in the country! Their (Awami League) general secretary’s statement. I was also the commerce minister for the last six months of Begum Khaleda Zia’s government. Tried to control the market. At that time the market price was under control.
