Sharjah : UAE experiences thunderstorms, torrential rains and cold Happy New Year. Heavy rains and thunderstorms lashed the country since Friday morning. The National Weather Service also forecast heavy rains in the UAE on Friday. In Dubai and Sharjah, people would go out on New Year’s to enjoy the rain and travel to the eastern regions, including Fujairah and Khor Fakkan. It also rained in various parts of Abu Dhabi. Roads were flooded due to heavy rains in many places. Children were also seen ‘playing boat’ in the floodwaters on the interstates in Sharjah.
Traffic congestion intensified on Friday evening due to flooding. The floodwaters on the road were removed by the municipality within hours. The beaches were also crowded as the New Year and weekend holidays came together. Police had issued warnings to motorists. Beaches in Sharjah and Ajman have also been warned by authorities. The expatriates also celebrated with rain pictures on social media including Facebook.
